Colours of Ucluelet

Ucluelet is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, and has a population of 1,717. The name Ucluelet comes from Yuułuʔił which means “people of the safe harbour” in the indigenous Nuu-chah-nulth language. This is the homeland of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ. I was inspired to create Colours of Ucluelet, due to the beautifully rugged coastline, surrounded by nature and wildlife. Activities you can do here include; storm watching and walks along the coastline in this very unique location.

In this blog post I’ll be exploring the natural colours of Ucluelet from photos I’ve taken across two different trips. This is done by colour picking a ton of swatches from various photos and selecting ones which appear the most and will work well together. Once I have selected my favourite I narrow it down so they are a set of four. The colours of Ucluelet could change quite dramatically across the seasons. These selects in-particular were taken from photos in September.

Taupe

Taupe derives from the French noun taupe meaning ‘mole’, however in the 1940’s it became a shade of colour in it’s own right. Taupe compliments bright colours, hence why it is commonly used in every aspect of art and design, such as home decor, fashion, architecture and branding. Taupe symbolizes authentic and organic qualities and is considered timeless.

Being a graphic designer and photographer, I am forever in awe of taking the world around us and sharing it digitally. Colours of Ucluelet is something that I am excited to share, whether purely for viewing purposes or as a point of reference for interior designers, web designers, or colour enthusiasts! I have chosen the names for these colours myself. If Pantone references are of interest as well, please do reach out and I can add these in as well.

You can find out more about Ucluelet, and stay up to date with their events and activities on their tourism website here.
